Martin Kemp has played and taught jazz and classical music for many years in East Anglia, as well as composing and arranging. His main instruments are clarinet (including bass clarinet and basset horn) and saxophone.   

Martin currently plays in or leads various bands, orchestras and ensembles, providing live jazz music in different styles

Jazz projects

Out of the Gallion - a quartet      recreating the exciting   blues-     based 1930s small groups led by Sidney Bechet.

Mingusology - a large ensemble playing the storming music of the great composer/bassist Charles Mingus.

Harmony in Harlem - solo clarinet/tenor sax with Michael Kilpatrick’s Ellington ensemble.

 

Function music   Martin also provides music for weddings, parties and all kinds of     occasions and events through Martin Kemp Jazz and Swing. 

 

Classical activities include work with the Ely Sinfonia, the Cambridge String Players and playing with and writing for Whiteacre Clarinets, a clarinet quartet

 

Educational Work includes

-The award-winning Mad Hatters at Parkside Community College

-Course Director at the Grafham Water Centre Jazz Courses

-Work with the Cambridge Instrumental Music  Agency

-Committee member of National Association of Youth Orchestras (NAYO) and the Clarinet and Saxophone Society (CASS)

-teaching private pupils
